The University of Chicago Center for Gastrointestinal Oncology offers specialized treatment for the full range of GI cancers. Learn about the Center and meet some of our physicians. In this video, Mitchell Posner, MD, chief of cancer surgery, provides an overview of the Center, its services, and introduces other members of the physician team.

Specialized centers that treat large numbers of patients have experience and protocols that lead to better outcomes. Our gastroenterology and cancer programs have consistently been toped ranked in Illinois and ranked among the very best in the country by US News and World Report. We treat the most challenging conditions, cancers that other hospitals might consider hopeless.

Dr. Irv Waxman is a gastroenterologist who specializes in cancer. He works closely with surgeons and oncologists so that our team can offer diagnostic and treatment procedures that are only available at a handful hospitals in the country.

We are one of only two hospitals in the country to offer participation in all three phases of clinical trials. Dr. Hedy L. Kindler's latest research allows us to offer clinical trials with the hope of increased survival in advanced pancreatic cancer patients.

We feel honored and privileged to care for each patient.
